Our Focus Areas for 2020-2021 are: poverty, racial injustice and civic discourse.
From Poverty to Prosperity:
Street Ministry | Turning Methadone Mile into Miracle Mile- Antioch partners with Symphony Church and Congregación León de Judá to serve, disciple and re-home those in need on “Methadone Mile.” You can read more on Boston’s Methadone Mile here.
Foster Care Ministry:
We work with our sister Antioch churches in Boston to serve families involved in the foster care system by providing wrap-around care, support, and donations. This work is mainly coordinated by Antioch’s Mosaic Ministry, which you can learn more about here.
Ending Racial Injustice:
Antioch offers several pathways to understand racial injustice on a personal and corporate level.
1.) Race Dialogues
A six week series introducing the concept of racial injustice and our complicity. This series is intended to give us a history of racial injustice in our country and city, give us some practical steps to understand how it might affect us and help us see how we might see a way forward towards racial justice and reconciliation. Race dialogues run every Fall and Spring.
2.) Be the Bridge
UniteBoston- a 5 month series where Antioch Community Church partners with UniteBoston to offer a membership in local Boston Be the Bridge groups. These groups use LaTasha Morrison’s Be the Bridge curriculum to move people towards racial reconciliation. These groups are hosted by UniteBoston and will include members of various partner churches across the city. These groups will lead towards other racial justice support and educational resources as well.
Pursuing Healthy Civic Discourse:
Disagreement and dialogue can make not only for a good conversation and a good time, but also a healthy and strong church that can do some good. Antioch Civic Forum is a public forum hosted by Justice Engagement to encourage learning more deeply about difficult issues through relationships. The purpose of Civic Forum is to have relational argumentation guided by Scripture over hard issues to encourage people to think and have nuance and clarity over many relevant issues in our time.
Previous Forums include:
- Should Christians Engage in War?
- Should the Church pay reparations to those affected by slavery?
- Can LGBTQIA+ identifying Christians lead Christian ministry?
If you are interested in serving in these three focus areas, or want to serve the operations of Justice Engagement, we’d love for you to email us.
